We Are at War!

Remarks to The World Congress of Families IV, Warsaw, Poland, May 2007

Good Morning !

We are at war! Which kind of war?

European Union was build for peace.

But today, Europe is struggling for survival.

Because Europe has no babies.

Because the family is not promoted.

The Family is in danger.

Brussels has EU mainstreamed, EU funded lobby groups by our taxpayers monies, and well paid civil servants.

Many just do not care about life, faith, the family.

Some others actively promote and implement very aggressive anti life, anti faith, anti family agenda behind closed doors.

For example: did you know that European Union wants to create its own set of Human rights?

The new Fundamental rights agency was founded in January 2007, in Vienna, its annual budget amounts 100 million euros. Nobody speaks anymore about the European Convention of human rights in Strasbourg is the European legal tool to promote life and the family.

But on the other hand there is hope: for the last 15 years, EU activists for life and the family are networking and they are fighting, efficiently. Some of them are here: the Honourable Carlo Casini, A Member of the European Parliament from Italy, who is the head of the pro-life movement in Italy: he dedicated his life to fight for the family and for life in the supreme court in Italy and he was among those who introduced the pro-life law trying to avoid in vitro fertilisation in Italy.

We also have here an outstanding woman: Dana Rosemary Scallon who, as a Member of the European Parliament was the fore front fighter for life and family. Here is also Anna Záborská a Member of the European Parliament from Slovakia who also fights to help women in distress, among the forum for life, which includes an organisation hosting in two welcoming homes for mothers-to-be in distress. Here is also Stephane Buffetaut a former MEP, currently representative at the EU Economic and Social Committee, who wrote an outstanding report on family and demographic trends. There are many other honest people including some EU civil servants who are here in this room, and there are non profit organisations representatives like David Fieldsend from Care for Europe, an outstanding organisation lobbying in the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, John Smeaton from SPUC, London, Tom Ward from catholic family organisation, UK, Raul Sanchez from European Large Family Organization, Jana Jamborova from New Women for Europe, and so on, there are many good friends here and thank you so much for being here.

The European coalition is a reality for many years, and plays a key role to promote in Europe, family policy as a national competence, each country having to create its own family policy, where the family remains at the center of the national policy. Evidence shows that it would be foolish to create a European family policy exposed in Brussels to private lobby groups which do not promote the family.

We are all gathered and united because we have created a very valuable inside outside coalition, a European Forum for Human Rights and the Family called FEFA. FEFA is not the FIFA, the world football federation, but the principle of these two organisations are the same: when the wall of the opposition is too strong, we need to pass the ball to our allies, it is very important to be a team. It is also like Rugby: a single player cannot win alone.

In fact we should not blame these well organised, well funded lobby groups who may act against us, -we may even say that this is a kind of democracy!-, and we should not blame Eurocrats: they do their job, they are well paid for it ! We should not blame Brussels, although some of those who knew Moscow call it "Bruscow"

We should blame ourselves.

Why?

Personal self promotion of some activists may create lack of support, division, attempts to neutralise each other, criticisms, etc.

But this attitude never brings success.

Being not informed on EU matters does not help to protect family matters. Family matters need to be protected and family experts need to be efficient. Defending family-linked values without a proper institutional knowledge and strategy has very serious consequences on institutions like the church, EU member states like recently Poland or Slovakia. Some European leaders like Rocco Buttiglione as well as other outstanding men who spoke here this morning, like Marek Jurek, had awful experiences in this field.

In the case of Rocco Buttiglione he got exposed to evil propaganda, defamatory condemnations without any protection from supposed closest friends and he got ostracised, marginalised and finally excluded from the European scene. Even his European political enemies were surprised by the lack of support he got from his so-called closest friends.

So we are at war,

And peace starts in our hearts.

Peace starts in respectful relationships, between us, between our organisations.

Peace needs our common support.

Poland's fundamental right to sovereignty was outrageously challenged during the European Parliament debate and through the following resolution of 26 April 2007, on homophobia in Europe, in which 16 paragraphs not only targeted Members of the Polish government, but also the state prosecutor office, as well as the state ombudsman, and an officially accredited political party. The European Parliament, threatened Poland to institute proceedings in the event of violations of their obligations under Community law, specifically regarding the implementation of the anti-discrimination directives.

The bad new is that this resolution could have been technically avoided but some conservative politicians are very happy with the role of victims.

The good new is that, during this vote, let's keep in mind that far more than half of parliamentarians which mean several hundred parliamentarians did not follow this propaganda and they voted against or they abstained from this homophobia resolution.

And some of them as you know wanted to express specifically their voices for this congress, for all people who are here. Thanks to Members I just mentioned before we could collect so many signatures. In fact we had more than a hundred congratulation signatures within 24 hours! May I take this opportunity to convey therefore their message to the organisers and to you all here and also specially to ambassador Sauerbrey who was wildly attacked by a bunch of 19 MEPs. So here is their message:

We wish to extend our hearty congratulations to the organisers of the 2007 World Congress of Families to be hold in Warsaw on 11-13 May 2007.

At a time when Europe is uniquely challenged by adverse demographic trends, we salute your endeavours to promote the family life and its rights with the healthy upbringing of children, to be positive citizens of tomorrow.

This is their message to the organisers. And these members did not come only from Poland; they come from 21 European countries.

Dear friends,

We have little money, let's remain more humble, more faithful, and more loyal, let's come together, and stay united.

Let's not loose time with cocktails but let's achieve our work.

This is for the sake of each children and each family.

Thank you.
