Good Morning,
2004 was a good year for the cause of life and family in
Mexico and around the world.
That year, thousands of congressmen met in Mexico City for
the III World Congress of Families, where we analyzed the actual validity and
relevance of family, built on a solid and stable marriage, between a man and a
woman, who love each other and love life and fruitfulness that springs from
them, made up of children and other fruits.
Beautiful conclusions where reached there which are already
patrimony of us all and that day by day, in each country and in each local
reality, proof their validity.
The construction of a better world that we all dream of,
starts by the building of better families in each community; one by one. We will
vainly fight the isolated symptoms of the world whose serious problems we all
witness, if we don’t first make man to come back home. To come back home and
educate himself and his family with his example and testimony, in authentic
universal values, in love, honesty, effort, faithfulness, generosity, solidarity
and love and respect for life, to only mention a few.
Today, three years later, the worldwide reality seems to
proof us right. The culture of life suffers attacks al around the world,
Portugal, Colombia and Mexico City the most recent examples.
Everything seems to darken and healthy families are needed.
However, the capacity of hope and enthusiasm is a sign of
spiritual health.
With this background, tired of fighting, but not beaten, we
come from far away to this blessed land of John Paul II in search of fresh air.
The fresh air of the truth of man…the truth of sex…of marriage…and of family,
which in various documents of Karol Wojtyla have become now heritage of mankind.
In a dazzled world, every time more selfish, that seems to
offer man a superficial happiness, based in beauty and physical strength, in
material goods and unending pleasures, we keep hope based on the beautiful truth
which owns us. We know that the solid friendship between a man and a woman keeps
being valid, a friendship which, thanks to human love, and going through a
serious and deep commitment, reaches the maximum expression of human freedom: To
the generous and uninterested gift of oneself to the spouse, and to their
children, that is, to the founding of a family.
In this path, not only does the person find with a higher
chance the happiness sought, but the whole of society regains it’s hope and
viability.
Because only in the family does man learn the task of being
man, of being virtuous, and if there is an urge for something in the world, it
is of virtuous men and women. Thus, if the family falls, man suffers and society
succumbs.
That is the spirit that gathers us together here, of the
good news of family, of the search for
the truth, of thoughts and dialogue.
Different realities, geographies and religions will
proclaim, analyze and then together promote the vision that we share. Of the
vital importance of the stable, faithful, educating family, founded on the
marriage of a man and a woman, to make the more just and better world that we
dream of a reality.
May we achieve it.
