The Doha International Conference for the Family in
Celebration of the 2004 International Year of the Family
2004 is the tenth anniversary of the first International Year of
the Family. That year prompted serious discussion of
controversial proposals to alter family life. Without a strong
and vigorous reassertion of the values that have supported every
healthy society since the beginning of time, continued rapid
social decline is inevitable. 2004 provides us with a vitally
needed opportunity to evaluate current trends, make proposals
for positive change, and refocus attention on the family's vital
role in maintaining healthy societies.
The Doha International Conference for the Family
The Doha International Conference for the Family follows upon
the celebration of the International Year for the Family and
will highlight and collect the family-related efforts of
governments, academicians, faith-based organizations,
non-governmental organizations (NGO's), and members of civil
society during a year-long series of events. The Doha
International Conference for the Family will encourage- and a
broad range of partners will cooperate to organize-family
conferences as well as NGO, community, and neighborhood
discussions around the globe. These discussions will channel
reports, recommendations, and findings from these events to the
main international conference in Doha, Qatar.
The conference will reaffirm and emphasize the pressing need to
strengthen the family in performing its vital social role and
will remind the world that the family is the fundamental group
unit of society and is entitled to protection and support.

This Global Forum will consist of a series of global pro-family
meetings and discussions:
The Doha International Conference for the Family
The Doha International Conference for the Family follows upon
the celebration of the International Year of the Family and will
be a two-day conference in Doha, Qatar on November 29 and 30,
2004, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint
Nasser Al-Misned, Consort of His Highness the Emir of Qatar, and
President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, State of
Qatar.
The Conference represents an international assemblage bringing
together international VIPs, governmental organizations,
non-governmental organizations (NGOs), scholars, academicians
and civil society leaders who will be invited by the State of
Qatar to participate for the purpose to call upon all nations of
the world to restate the principles related to family life
embodied in the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, and to
adhere to values and endeavor to promote the role of the family
as it is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and
is entitled to protection by society and state.
A Recommitment to Fundamental Rights
The Conference will conclude its events be adopting the Doha
Declaration which will carry a message to the states of the
world emphasizing the importance of restating the family and
will call upon governments to be committed to promote the role
of family and its protection as a fundamental unit of which
society is made.
After the conclusion of these events, the Supreme Council for
Family Affairs, in cooperation with pro-family NGO's, will
prepare a book that compiles the most prominent events and
academic findings of the Conference. |
